Diwali

Diwali as the Indian (Hindu) celebration of lights. It's celebrated (this year) on the 19 of October.
Diwali lasts about five days.

Today, our school was lucky enough to have some guest dancers and musicians to perform for us some traditional dances from India, also celebrated in Diwali. They also made us more aware of what Diwali is and how it's celebrated. In India, they have a 2 week holiday (lucky!!!) to clean the house from top to bottom. They do this to sweep away all the bad luck, and they open their doors and windows to let good luck in.

Here are some interesting facts about Diwali:

-The female dancers wear bells on their ankles; each one weighing 7 kgs!!!
-A normal Sari (a piece of fabric wrapped around the woman to create a dress) is 9 metres long!!!
-Here is the story of Diwali.
-Over 1 million Hindus celebrate Diwali!!
-  Diwali is the largest Hindu celebration in India!
